open house
1937 Marydale Drive
Saturday, September 6, 2025
1pm to 3pm
This “Texas Ranch” style cottage was built in 1941 by Percy Carpenter for Ralph J and Mary Powers. The one-story compact home utilizes an “L” shape to form a courtyard facing the street and reached via a Dilbeck signature little bridge that once spanned a shallow drainage swale (since removed). There are many Dilbeck features to note here including an original garage door with a “face” made of an oxen yoke and windows, a dovecote cupola, wood lattice screening in an outdoor entry vestibule and a reproduction wood fence that was replicated from the original, to name a few. This home is one of the most iconic Dilbeck cottages around. The interior open living and dining space incorporates all of Dilbeck’s repertoire with a very large fireplace with a special mantle, wood ceiling in the dining room, original light fixtures and a bay window that looks onto the courtyard.
Join us for an Open House hosted by Ged Dipprey Real EstateGroup, the listing agent. Capacity is very limited, and registration is required and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

This easy-to-spot Dilbeck is a “Texas Ranch” style with a modern touch. It was built in 1952 by the Trojack Construction Company for J R and Anna May Tozer. Robert Tozer owned the Pioneer Sales Company, a wholesale distributor of aircraft instrumentation. Among the many recognizable Dilbeck features is an over-sized round brick chimney paired with a square one turned on a 45 degree angle. The original steel picture windows are a modern element that is common on Dilbeck homes.

Dilbeck Birthday Party
May 24, 2023
Dallas, TX
Around 60 Dilbeck afficionados gathered at El Ranchito to celebrate the architect’s birthday and to share experiences with his architecture. The Dilbeck Conservancy hosted this party, the second birthday celebration and its official annual meeting, with food and margaritas in a festive atmosphere created both by Dilbeck himself and party planner Margaret Ryder of Kane and Company. El Ranchito was chosen as the location for obvious reasons and to support the owner’s efforts to designated this property as a City of Dallas Landmark. El Ranchito was designed by Dilbeck in 1947 as the Red Bryan Smokehouse restaurant and is one of many restaurants designed by the architect but very few survive.
